Tramping on the West Coast

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

We packed up the twins (4 yrs) and headed out to Blue River Hut

It is only 2.5 hours from Wanaka away but the landscape has changed dramatically. We love the lush greens, the moss and all types and shapes of ferns. We parked at the beginning (or end) of the Paringa Cattle Track and headed into the forest for a light and straight forward walk to Blue River Hut. At the hut and around the river there was lots to discover. Unplugged, equipped with a stove and tea and hot chocolate, books, pencils and torches, we spent a wonderful night away in the forest on New Zealand's South Islands West Coast.
